Stephen Wilson has been active in choral music as a singer, guitarist, percussionist and director for over 30 years. He originally joined the Chorale as a singer in 1998. Following the untimely death of then director David Ludwig in the Spring of 2002, Wilson became the interim director. In January 2003, he accepted the invitation to become the permanent director. He held this position until Spring 2008, when he stepped down to pursue other interests, then again accepted the directorship in Fall of 2013.
Wilson's past affiliations include the National Association of Pastoral Musicians where he worked on the local and national level as workshop coordinator for programs in liturgy, contemporary ensembles and choral directing. During his tenure as an elementary school music teacher, he was affiliated with the Music Educators National Conference and Illinois Music Educators Association.
As a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Wilson has had the opportunity to work with such prominent choral directors as Eph Ehly (UMKC), Simon Carrington (Yale), Anton Armstrong (St. Olaf) and Joseph Flummerfelt (Westminster Choir College).
Lately, Wilson has been a founding board member of Belleville's premier community theatre group Take A Bow Showcase, where he has been involved as vocal coach, orchestra member and sound design tech. He continues to be active in church music groups at St. Mary's and St. Teresa in Belleville.
Wilson is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where he performed under the direction of Dr. Leonard Van Camp.
